Kristen Beales received her PhD in American History from the College of William & Mary in 2019. Her current book manuscript, Spirited Exchanges: The Religion of the Marketplace in Early America, examines the relationship between religion and capitalism between 1720 and 1815. Her research for this project has been supported by twenty grants and fellowships from institutions including the American Antiquarian Society, American Philosophical Society, Clements Library, Huntington Library, Library Company of Philadelphia, and the Massachusetts Historical Society.
